Crete, embrace the renowned Cretan hospitality and sample delicious Cretan cheese and cuisine. Our day starts from the town of Rethymno located in the southeast and passes through the traditional villages of Mylopotamos (Halepa, Garazo, Faratsi, Veni) and areas with dense vegetation, fresh aromas and unique views.
The stunning route and sightseeing continues until we reach the historic Halepa Monastery, which was a refuge for Cretan revolutionaries during the civil wars, where we make our second stop. The unique view from the monastery will inspire you to take photos combining the highest peaks of Crete with the beautiful valley.
Then the stunning off-road route continues and on the way to the shepherd’s hut called “Mitato”, the panoramic views will take your breath away. If we are lucky, we will manage to admire some wild eagles and krie krie and take some photos.
The road will lead us to a traditional shepherd’s hut, where we will learn all about the lifestyle of a shepherd and the cheese making process. There, the owner will welcome us with a raki and fresh Cretan cheese. Leaving the shepherd’s hut and having worked up an appetite, we will soon arrive at a traditional Cretan tavern in the village of Axos, where we will introduce you to the famous Cretan cuisine and hearty hospitality with plenty of local food and wine.
There is plenty of time for coffee after lunch for those who wish to enjoy a cup of coffee. On our return we will follow an asphalt road that will lead us to the town of Rethymno.
