Guided tour in the bay of Navarinos
Just 50 minutes from the city of Kalamata is the most important jewel of southern Greece. The bay of Navarino. On the side of the bay on the top of the hill is the…
old Navarino castle. It is a 13th century Frankish fortress that is completely abandoned and destroyed after all those wars with spectacular views from the top.
The route starts from the bottom of the hill. On our way to the top we will meet the southernmost migratory bird station between Europe and Africa, the lagoon of Yalova. Many mammals, reptiles, amphibians and fish live there such as herons, hawks, Aegean gulls, flamingos, ospreys, royal eagles and other migratory and endemic birds. Notable among them is the African Chameleon, which is endangered.
Leaving behind the lagoon of Yalova we will have the opportunity to swim at the most photographed and famous beach in Greece, Voidokilia beach. After a few dives we will continue to climb the hill and at the top after about an hour we will have the opportunity to admire the wonderful view of the entire bay area, such as Voidokilia beach, the lagoon of Gialova, the city of Pylos and the Ionian Sea while learning the local history from 425 BC to the present day.
