Vouraikos and the mythical river Krathi! With rich relief and impressive nature, the ascent to the top of Chelmos offers magical images to its visitors.
Starting from Xirokambos, just before the parking lot of the Ski Center, and at an altitude of about 1,600 meters, we follow a forest road that leads us through a dense fir forest. We hike through the pristine nature of Chelmos, enjoying the peace and tranquility of the mountain.
Entering the alpine zone and climbing up to the peak we pass by the Neraidorachi, the most famous peak of Achaia! At an altitude of 2,238 meters, one of the most modern telescopes in Europe has been installed.
The Neraidorachi is one of the darkest areas in Europe, giving the Aristarchus telescope the ability to penetrate deep into the universe! From the High Peak of Chelmos at 2,355 meters we have the opportunity to enjoy an amazing view!
The imposing Erymanthos to the west and Dourduvana, Kyllini and the steep cuts of the other peaks of Chelmos really steal the show. Descending towards our starting point we will enjoy a nice break for a delicious picnic!
This hike requires good physical fitness and is for those who love wild mountain nature!

An impressive 20 km long gorge formed over millions of years by the Vouraikos River. It is part of the Chelmos-Vouraikos National Park thanks to its rich vegetation and incredible natural diversity! Waterfalls, beautiful caves, rapid crystal clear streams, cool springs and impressive cliffs make this an unforgettable experience!
The trail we follow crosses the protected area and is part of the European long distance trail E4. During our 6-hour hike, we walk along the tracks of the most impressive attraction of this area: the “Odontotos” railway.
Built in 1896 to connect the towns of Diakopto and Kalavrita, it has become an integral part of the region! It is often described as the most “spectacular railway route” of the Balkan region.
Starting our hike from Kalavryta we will have the opportunity to enjoy the magnificent scenery and walk through this wonderful natural reserve until we reach Diakopto. From there we will go to the famous Odontotos railway and return to Kalavryta having stunning views along the way!
