the most demanding nature lover. The Menalon Trail is a 75 km mountain trail that crosses the legendary Arcadia in the heart of the mythical Peloponnese.

With a diverse landscape of rugged mountains, gorges and green valleys, the trail passes through picturesque villages such as Stemnitsa, Dimitsana, Elati, Vytina, Nymphasia and includes eight sections varying in difficulty and length, which are worth exploring .

According to mythology, the river Lucius was named after the nymphs who brought the newborn Zeus to these waters for his first bath.

The trail starts from the village of Dimitsana and the Open-Air Museum of Aquatics and ends in ancient Gortyna. Temples, monasteries, ascetics, hermitages, watermills, water jets and camps are components that make the landscape special.

Among the most important religious monuments are the Old (10th century) and the New (17th century) Monastery of Panagia tis Philosopher, the Monastery of Timios Prodromos (late 16th century), the watermill of the Monastery of Prodromos, Agios Andreas Gortyna (14th century) and the Ancient City of Gortyna (3rd century BC).

With a diverse landscape of rugged mountains, gorges and green valleys, the trail passes through picturesque villages such as Stemnitsa, Dimitsana, Elati, Vytina, Nymphasia and includes eight sections varying in difficulty and length, which are well worth exploring.

The route descends from Elati to the bed of the river Milaon and passes under the hill where the acropolis of the old town of Methydria used to stand. The whole trail passes through a dense forest full of fir trees. After a short break for a few dips in the crystal clear waters you will reach the village of Vytina, the jewel of Mainalos. There you will have plenty of time for shopping and tasting local delicacies.
