Hiking to the waterfall of Orlias and the Koromilia shelter
One of the most important streams of Olympus as it has been associated with the god of modern music, Orpheus. The river was called Helicon but the Pierridean Muses, Maenads, wanted to wash their hands in the clean water to atone for their sin, the river was painted with Orpheus’ blood and since then it was named “Vafyras” after what it was painted or “Orlias” after Orpheus’ cry…
We will climb up a gorge of unique beauty rich in strawberry trees next to the stream and pass by the unique waterfall of Red Rock, where we will make our long stop for a swim, rest and snack. Continuing on, we will ascend to the Koromilia shelter with incredible panoramic views, where we will have lunch in its lovely cool surroundings. Our return will be either by car on a dirt road or again by hiking along the same trail
