This certification allows for plenty of diving experience and is the perfect prelude to the Open Water Diver course, if that is your ultimate goal. As a PADI Scuba Divers you will be certified for:

• Dive under the direct supervision of a PADI Divemaster, Assistant Instructor or Instructor to a maximum depth of 12 meters / 40 feet
• Receive air fills, rent or purchase diving equipment and participate in other diving activities, provided they have the required supervision
• Continue training and complete the PADI Open Water Diver certification and other courses such as Project AWARE and equipment specialization courses

The course structure is about 2-3 days and 12 hours in total

• Completing the theory beforehand by teleclass will help you a lot.
• We meet at our base in Agios Prokopios which is located 5 km from Naxos town. We fill in the necessary documents and you meet your instructor. We start with the theory and explain about the diving equipment and the skills we use in the water. We put on our wetsuit and enter the sea right in front of our base.
• After exiting the water we have a briefing and then a break for a snack. An hour later we have a briefing and a second dive on our reef.
• The next day we have a briefing and another dive on our reef.
• The fun part
• The Scuba Diver certification opens the door to the underwater world for anyone who thinks that a school is too long and too hard.
• You can upgrade to Open Water Diver whenever you want! In less time than the Scuba Diver program takes, you can take the leap to Open Water Diver certification and start scuba diving independently whenever your time allows or you’re ready for more

 

What you learn

All the basics of diving through knowledge development, a set of pool diving skills that you will use again during open water dives and an appreciation for the underwater world that will have you returning for more time at the bottom every chance you get !

During the course you will cover material and practice skills related to topics such as

• Buoyancy skills such as comfortable ascents and descents and breathing underwater.
• How to stay warm underwater, simplifying your friends’ swimming skills and diving techniques.
• Diving environments and aquatic life you are likely to encounter.
• Preventing common problems that can occur underwater.
• Introduction to boat diving.
• The Scuba equipment you use

 

You will use all basic scuba equipment and some of this may be included in your course. You may want to invest in your own mask, snorkel and fins as these personal items are much more fun to use when they fit you properly. You will also use a buoyancy compensating vest that holds your bottle, a scuba regulator that provides air, a weight system and instruments to monitor depth and air supply. You are also provided with a 5mm wetsuit

 

The training material you need

• PADI offers a variety of home study materials for the Scuba Diver. While eLearning is the most convenient option, you can also choose a DVD book and video package or a multimedia DVD-ROM
• PADI Scuba Diver materials provide a comprehensive overview of basic diving skills, terminology and safety procedures. For each topic you will read a description and watch a video demonstration. You will then jump into the pool (or pool-like environment) to practice these skills with your instructor. Once you’re a certified diver, use the course material as a reference guide for future dives

Prerequisites for this course

• To take this course, you must be: 15 years old (or 10 years old for Junior Scuba Diver certification).

What you learn

The PADI Open Water Diver course consists of three main phases:

• Knowledge development (online, home study or classroom) to develop an understanding of the fundamentals of diving
• In-pool lessons to learn basic diving skills
• Sea diving to test your new skills and explore!
• If you have tried scuba diving with a Discover Scuba Diving experience, the skills you learn can be credited towards a portion of your full PADI Open Water Diver certification

 

 

Prerequisites

To register for the PADI Open Diver or Junior Open Water Diver course, you must be 10 years of age or older (PADI eLearning requires an additional registration step for students under 13 years of age due to international Internet laws)

 

Course Structure

• If the theory is done in advance we meet at the dive center located at Agios Prokopios beach, 5 km from Naxos town.
• We fill in the necessary paperwork and you know your instructor. After a short theory we go for the first water dive which takes place on the reef right in front of the dive centre.
• After finishing the dive we have a one hour break and then we do some theory and a second dive.
• On the second day we do two dives in the sea, on the reef of our beach at a greater depth than on the first day.
• On the third day we do a dive on our beach reef and a dive up to 18 meters on another reef or even on the wreck

 

The fun part

The fun part of this course is. . . well, almost all because it’s fantastic to learn to dive. You breathe underwater for the first time (something you’ll never forget) and learn everything you need to know to become a certified diver. During the course, you’ll do a minimum of five pool dives and four dives at local dive sites under the supervision of your PADI instructor.

The Scuba equipment we use

In the PADI Open Water Diver course, you learn to use basic scuba equipment, such as a dive computer and standard accessories. The equipment you wear varies somewhat, depending on whether you are diving in tropical, temperate or cold water. Check with your local dive shop for the equipment you will use during this course. You can find most at your local dive shop in your area
