Rafting on the Lousios River
Lucius is the river where Zeus took his first bath immediately after his birth. The Alpheios is the largest river in the Peloponnese and the god himself according to mythology. Both rivers flow through an impressive gorge, with white limestone cliffs rising above dense vegetation. Until recently, the power of the river was harnessed by the inhabitants of the surrounding area with water mills built alongside it. The steep cliffs that rose above the banks provided shelter to hermits and monks who lived in caves and monasteries built into the rocks. In this place, one of the best river rafting descents takes place on two of the most beautiful rivers in Greece…
The descent starts from the bridge of Atsicholos near Karytaina in Arcadia. At the beginning, we will attend a short training conducted by our guide, get our uniforms, life jackets, helmets, boats and paddles and transfer to the starting point. We are ready to discover the hidden wonders of the river, have fun while paddling and swim in the crystal clear waters. The difficulty of the passages we encounter during the descent is easy with some moderate level 2-3 sections based on the international river difficulty rating. During the summer months the water volume decreases making the activity easier and suitable for everyone, beginners and families with children. In spring and autumn, depending on rainfall and water volume, the activity becomes more difficult and ideal for those seeking more action and adrenaline. No previous experience is required.
