Explore traditional villages in Rethymnon and see the cheese making process
Combine some of the most unique panoramic views, visit traditional Cretan villages and learn all about the lifestyle of a Cretan shepherd by exploring an original shepherd's hut called "Mitato" with a small group of 6-8 people in each vehicle. Learn about the history and traditions of the island, meet the locals, explore the wildlife of Crete, enjoy the famous Cretan hospitality and taste the delicious Cretan cheese and cuisine...
Our day starts from Rethymno heading southeast passing through the traditional villages of Mylopotamos (Halepa, Garazo, Faratsy, Veni) and areas with dense vegetation, fresh aromas and unique views. The stunning route and views continue until we reach the historic monastery of Chalepa, which was a refuge for Cretan rebels during the civil wars, where we make our second stop. The unique view from the monastery will inspire you to take photos, combining the highest mountain peaks of Crete with the beautiful valley.
Then our amazing off-road route continues and on the way to the shepherd's hut called "Mitato", the panoramic view will take your breath away. If we are lucky, we will be able to admire some wild eagles and goats up close and take some photos. The road will lead us to a traditional Shepherd hut where we will learn all about the lifestyle of a shepherd and the cheese making process.
Leaving the shepherd's hut and already having worked up an appetite, we will soon arrive at a traditional Cretan tavern in the village of Axos, where we will introduce you to Cretan cuisine and warm hospitality with plenty of local dishes. There will be plenty of time after lunch for those who wish to enjoy a cup of coffee. On the way back we will follow an asphalt road that will lead us to the town of Rethymnon.
