Sea Kayak and guided tour of the Poros canal
A unique combination of nature, history and architecture. We will start from the city of Galata, taking a course to the east. There, after ten minutes of paddling, we will encounter 4 small islets. One of them is called "Bourji". Bourtzi is a small island with an area of 30,000 m2, at the entrance to the harbor of the island of Poros...
There was a castle on the island from the Byzantine period. It was then used as a base of operations against the Saracen pirates. The ruins of the castle that we see today are from the fortress built there in the 19th century by the Bavarian philhellene Carl Wilhelm von Heideck (1788-1861), who had served as chairman of the Committee of Founders of the New Greek State.
Once upon a time, two small islands - Spheria and Calabria - joined together to create a small jewel in the Saronic Gulf, the island of Poros, which, together with its sister city Galata, is our next destination. Small boats with visitors come and go from the canal. When you land, you find picturesque tavernas, yacht marinas, neoclassical buildings, a clock tower and pine forests that reach all the way to the sea. All, offering a sense of peace and relaxation.
There we can see the picturesque houses of Poros along with the volcanic rocks of Galata, dating back to the time when the sea surface was created. This unique trip combines the carvings of nature and 18th century architecture to the extent that the kayaker truly has a unique experience combining the sport of nature with history and culture.
Afterwards, we will admire the crystal clear waters of a magical, secluded beach, enjoy a meal with local, organic, homemade products. We will relax, rest, swim and return home, having the opportunity for an alternative view of the route so that we can remember it for a lifetime.
