Reaching an altitude of 1000 meters our adrenaline will rise while we continue our off-road route through the heart of the White Mountains, crossing the unknown shepherd's paths, filling the fresh air and the magical landscape of wild vegetation, animals and breathtaking landscapes. At the end of our adventurous route we will reach the Kallergi Shelter at 1680m above sea level. The view just above the Samaria Gorge is unique. Looking south, you will catch a glimpse of the Libyan Sea and the highest peaks of the White Mountains surrounding you. Arriving at the Omalos Plateau, we stop for lunch with local platters at a traditional Cretan tavern.
After lunch as we follow the road back we pass the beautiful and historic village of Lakki, where we stop for some photos and information about the village and then we continue on our way back to Chania full of the essence of Crete.
*Please note that during the winter (December-March) the Kallergi shelter may be inaccessible due to heavy snow. In this case, we reach Xyloskalo (entrance of Samaria Gorge) and then follow alternative off-road routes through mountains and villages.
